How to save 10 hours a week and become more productive by hiring a virtual assistant
Like many busy professionals, time is my most valuable asset and is certainly something I’m always chasing. With the pace of modern life and business it makes my time a vital commodity so every day I attempt to extract as much value from it as possible.
For the last 25 years I have always had a personal assistant sitting next to me. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances she decided to leave. I was left contemplating whether to simply replace her or with modern technology was there an alternative out there that would achieve the same outcome?
Shortly after my PA's departure one of my friends introduced me to the concept of a virtual assistant. I instantly laughed! On reflection though and on the basis that I was spending more and more time out of the office, it made perfect sense. My work schedule meant my PA would see less and less of me and most of our communication would be on the phone or via email. So, as someone not afraid of change I thought ‘let’s give it a go’ and immediately took to the internet to find someone offering these services and subsequently appointment my current virtual personal assistant.
It's now been 2 ½ years, my virtual PA is based in Cheshire whilst my offices are in London. I start each week with a list of time consuming tasks that I assign to her. I have learned that not everything requires my own personal attention so anything like this I leave to her. We speak daily via voice, WhatsApp or Facetime for no more than 1 hour, she has access to my diary and emails and pretty much does the same job that my PA used to do.
The difference is, it suits her because she can work from home, she does not have to travel and as a mother of three she can remain active at work whilst bringing up her family and earning a living. For me it’s more cost effective as I don’t have the expense of a full-time salary and only pay for the hours that she works. I therefore get to spend my most valuable asset, my time, focusing on the core operations of my businesses. It’s a classic win win situation!
